What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is one of the oldest and most commonly used systems of healing in the world.

A branch of Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture views the body and mind as one energetic structure along with the organ systems that work together to keep all of the systems in balance and health.

Chinese medicine aims to treat the whole person, emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually to help the person gain and maintain optimal health.

My Philosophy

I love the way that Chinese Medicine takes into account every aspect of a person's life to understand disharmony.

Over the years of treating patients, I have been honored to see the profound ways that acupuncture supports health and wellbeing.

People often feel that acupuncture is “magic” because of the profound shift that they feel sometimes after just one session.

However, underlying this ancient practice are real, measurable physiological changes that we can track acupuncture doing:

  • Increased blood flow

  • Decreased inflammation

  • Release of endorphins

  • Regulation of hormones

  • Enhancing the parasympathetic state, or “rest and digest” state

What is Chinese Herbal Medicine?

Herbology is a powerful way to promote healing. The goal of Chinese herbal medicine is always to rectify the underlying imbalance, rather than to just eliminate symptoms.

Herbs are almost always given in a formula (usually containing 3-15 herbs) tailored to each patient's unique needs.

With over 300 herbs in the Chinese herbal Materia Medica, and hundreds of classical formulas to base prescriptions on, almost every condition can benefit from herbal medicine.

The most common issues I treat with herbs are:

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • PMS

  • Irregular cycles

How to take herbs

Herbs come in a variety of forms.

Tinctures and tablets are given for common conditions.

For more complex conditions, taking raw herbs or the powdered extract is usually advised. I have a powdered herbal pharmacy on hand and can make many of the formulas in house.

There is the possibility that I may not have one of the herbs stocked and I would need to order the formula from a supplier.
